Privacy policy
The short version: this site collects as little as possible — no third-party analytics, no cookies, no accounts. Product links lead to our affiliate network, which uses its own cookies — see «Affiliate links» below.
Who is responsible
DisplayedWell is operated by YouRM GmbH, Senggigässli 10, 3800 Matten b. Interlaken, Switzerland (the controller under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection). Contact for anything data-related: hello@displayedwell.com.
What we process, and why
- Server logs. When you visit this site, our hosting provider processes the technical data every web server needs: your IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser type and referrer. Purpose: delivering the site, security and abuse prevention. We do not use these logs to identify visitors.
- Counting on our own server. We count visits on our own server (Netlify). This is everything we store: page views; clicks on product links, on the «Parts list» jump link and on «Save on Pinterest»; arrivals from our own Pinterest pins (the pin number); the website a clicked link leads to (the domain only, never the full address); the address requested on a page that does not exist (404); the date and time; the page or link label; a country group; and whether the device is mobile or desktop. No cookies, no IP address is stored, no user IDs, no third-party analytics. Browsers that block link pings (Firefox by default) are simply not counted.
- Email. If you write to us, we process your email address and message to answer you, and keep the correspondence as long as needed for that purpose.
Who receives data
We work with two processors: Netlify, Inc. (San Francisco, USA) hosts and delivers this site — the server log data described above, and the page-view and link-click counts described in «Counting on our own server», are processed on Netlify's infrastructure, which may be located outside Switzerland, including in the United States (see Netlify's privacy statement). Infomaniak Network SA (Geneva, Switzerland) provides our email service — if you write to hello@displayedwell.com, your address and message are processed and stored on Infomaniak's Swiss infrastructure (see Infomaniak's privacy policy). We do not sell personal data, and beyond these processors we share it with no one. impact.com and the retailers we link to are not our processors: when you click a product link, your browser contacts them directly (see «Affiliate links» below).
How long we keep data
The page-view and link-click counts described in «Counting on our own server» are kept as individual events for up to 400 days, then deleted by our own evaluation script; the daily totals we compute from them (numbers only, no dates of individual visits beyond the day) are kept indefinitely in our own records. Server logs are retained by Netlify according to its operational policies for security and troubleshooting, not indefinitely and not under our control beyond our processor agreement. Email correspondence is kept as long as the conversation requires, then deleted.
Affiliate links
Some guides contain product links to partner retailers, currently Big Fudge (bigfudgevinyl.com, USA). These links run through the affiliate network impact.com (Impact Tech, Inc., Santa Barbara, USA). This is what happens when you click one:
- Your browser goes to impact.com's servers first and from there to the retailer. impact.com records the click and uses a cookie or similar identifier, your IP address and browser details so that a purchase can be credited to us. If you buy something, it also receives the order ID, time and value. impact.com acts for the retailer, not for us, and states that it receives no name, address or payment details and deletes or anonymises visitor data after 90 days — see its privacy policy, which also explains how to reach it about your data (privacy@impact.com).
- Each link carries a short code naming the guide it sits in (for example «vinyl-record-display»). The code contains no information about you.
- On our side we only count that a product link was clicked, as described in «Counting on our own server». We set no cookies and load no network script on our pages. From impact.com we receive reports on referred purchases — date, order value, commission and the link code — never your name, contact details or payment information.
If you don't click a product link, none of this happens.
«Save on Pinterest» button
The button on each guide image is a plain link, not a Pinterest script: nothing loads from Pinterest while you read. Only if you click it does your browser open Pinterest with the address and image of the guide, and from then on Pinterest's own privacy policy applies. The same goes for the Pinterest link in the footer.
Your rights
Under Swiss data protection law you can request information about data we hold about you, and ask for correction or deletion. Write to hello@displayedwell.com — we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
